The Natyanjali Festival is celebrated to pay homage to Lord Natraja who is the form of Lord Shiva. It promotes unity in diversity by dance and music. It is a five day festival celebrated during the month of February or March. This festival commences on the prosperous day of Maha Shivarati.
It is held in Chidambaram temple, Tamil Nadu in India. The age old Chidambaram temple is located near Chennai city. Lord Natraja is called a global dancer.
Dancers from all over India come to perform wearing traditional costumes. The festival is organized by Government of India, Government of Tamil Nadu, The Natyanjali Trust, Chidambaram, The Ministry of Tourism and The Department of Tourism. The Chidambaram temple is gold roofed exhibiting pillars with 108 postures of Lord Natraja performing Bharatnatyam.
