The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival is devoted to the cultivating and harvesting of pumpkins and other harvests of fall. The festival was first of all started in 1964 by Barnesville community in the Catholic Church basement. They renamed it as Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. It is held during last week of September in Barnesville, Ohio in the United States.
The seven day festival commence with an official ribbon cutting that is done on Thursday. The pumpkin growers compete with each other to grow the heaviest pumpkin which is crowned as “The King Pumpkin”. On Saturday night the King Pumpkin is auctioned to the highest bidder for seven days. On the return of the pumpkin to the committee, its seeds are dried and then packed to sell to the growers. The other attraction of the festival includes live music on multiple stages, antique and classic car show, new and antique farm machinery, crafts, tobacco spitting contest and hog calling tall tales contest.
