The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival was first held on 3rd May, 1924 which marks the beginning of the spring and honors the most vital natural resource in the Winchester-Frederick County Virginia area. The festival was suspended in 1942 due to World War but was again resumed in 1945. It is a six day festival held usually in the end of April in Winchester, Virginia in the United States.
The main highlight of the festival is the crowning of Queen Shenandoah and the Grand Feature Parade. The annual Queen Shenandoah is chosen after contestants complete a complex process that involves festival organizers, former queens, and political figures. The Queen is announced in March and is honored during the festival. The event features band competitions, a car show, luncheons, a 10k run, firefighters’ events, dances, parades, a circus, carnival, fireworks, activities for seniors and children, a two day craft show and celebrity appearances. Many residents decorate their homes with green, pink and white color which is the traditional festive colors. These colors represent the bloom of the apple trees.
