The Burning Man is a week long festival originated in 1986 as a ritual of bonfire when Larry Harvey, Jerry James along with a few friends met on Baker Beach in San Francisco. They burned a 9 foot wooden man and a dog made of wood. Since then this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over Nevada. The event starts on the day before Monday and ends on the American Labor Day holiday. The festival is
held in Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada, in the United States. Thousands of people gather in Nevada every year to celebrate this festival with no restrictions on clothing, eating and boozing. The participants are encouraged to show their talent. There are several theme parks built all around and the people work in a community.
The Principles of The Burning Man are as follows:
I. Radical Inclusion: Everyone can become a part of the festival who can manage to buy a ticket.
II. Radical Self-reliance: The participants are liable for their own existence due to the remote location of the event. Therefore they are motivated to bring their own resources.
III. Radical Self-expression: By various projects and art forms the participants are inspired to express themselves.
IV. Communal Effort: Participants are motivated community feelings by assisting others.
V. Civic Responsibility: It is the civic responsibility of the participants to become a part of the society and convey the rules of state, local and federal to others.
VI. Leave No Trace: Participants are motivated to clean their environment by leaving no trace when the event finishes.
VII. Participation: It indicates that everyone is invited to participate in the event.
VIII. Immediacy: Participants are inspired to become a part of the event and experience what is happening around them.
IX. Gifting: This principle follows the old tradition of barter system. Gifting is encouraged in place of cash.
X. Deco modification: According to this principle no cash transactions are permitted during the event. Cash can be used only in case of charity, fuel and some other purposes.
