The Sawai Gandharva Music Festival was commenced in 1953 to remember the first death anniversary of Pt. Sawai Gandharva. He was an Indian classical vocalist. Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi founded the festival.
It lasts three days and is held in the month of December in Pune, the state of Maharashtra in India. The disciples of Sawai Gandharva celebrate this festival annually with the help of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal. Musicians, vocalists and dancers visit this place to exhibit their talents and pay tribute to this great musician.
