The city of Lowell, MA took the task of hosting their folk festival after experiencing gigantic success for three years with the National Folk Festival. Therefore The Lowell Folk Festival was started in 1990. The Lowell Folk Festival is usually held on the third weekend in July in Lowell, Massachusetts in the United States.

The three day event festival is devoted to craft displays, dance parties, ethnic culinary delights, folk dance, parades, street, traditional music. This all takes place on the six open-air stages all over the Lowell town.
