Holi is the festival of colors that is celebrated to remember Bakht Prahlada. The popular legend associated with Holi is of Bakht Prahlada who was the admirer of Lord Vishnu. His father wanted to kill him. He attempted many times to kill him but did  not achieve any success.

Finally he gave the task to his sister Holika who was blessed that she could not burn in a fire. She took the boy on his lap in a huge fire but to utter surprise Holika was burnt and king Prahlada was saved.

The festival is also celebrated to remember the love of Lord Krisna and Radha. It is also the period of spring harvest.

It takes place in Phalgun month, usually in February or March. People apply colors and sprinkle on each other on this day.
