Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab is celebrated as the birthday of the first Guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He was born in Talwandi village in Lahore, Pakistan in 1469 AD. He founded Sikh religion.
It occurs in the Kartik month on the full moon day which is the month of October or November. The day is celebrated by all Sikh community all over the world and by other followers of Guru Ji.
“Akhand Path” or forty-eight hour non-stop reading of the holy book of the Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib Ji is carried on at the Gurdwaras usually two days before the birthday. A day before his birthday a procession is carried out. On this day Sikhs visit Gurdwaras and community lunch or langar is prepared.
