Dr. Sampoornanand Jayanti marks the birthday of educationist Sampoornanand. It occurs on 1st January annually and is celebrated all over India but it is mainly celebrated in the Sampurananand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya University in Varanasi.
He was a scholar in Sanskrit and astronomy who was born on 1st January 1891 and devoted his entire life for the Indian Independence movement. He took part in the Non Cooperation Movement and became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1954 but was forced to resign. He promoted Hindi, Sanskrit and other cultural subjects in the State. He suggested ban on the killing of cows. He was appointed as the first chairperson of Varanasi Lalit Kala Akademi in February 1962.
This day is celebrated in every educational institute as the founder day to recognize his contribution towards education. On this day many activities are organized like blood donation camp, convocation and much more.
